can anybody explain me how the ranking is built up and what the stars next to to the player name mean? thanks!

You can see the ranking guidelines by clicking the "?" button in the leaderboard. The ranking is first by completeness and then by shortest time.
The star beside your name is the total number of stars you get from all the games.
